Counselor's Corner

The senior class has started a mentoring program. They each will have a mentee to mentor. They can choose which class they would like to be a mentor, and along with that classroom teacher, a student will be chosen who needs extra one-on-one time. The 13 students are in the process of finding a student to mentor.  The students have had discussions about financial aid and have been given packets with financial aid information. Scholarships and FAFSA are important topics.

The Careers class (juniors) has been researching generations (ex. Baby boomers, Gen X, Millennials etc). They researched information about the generation, characteristics, careers, ages, and other relevant information. This assignment was to bring awareness to the differences and interactions among the generations in the workforce. They also have studied “green careers”, aqua farming, personality types, NE3H careers, and career choices. The class learned about skills needed to be successful in the workplace.

The 8th grade Career exploration class has done interest inventories which helped them investigate their interests and compare that interest to what jobs are in a career cluster.  They participated in the interactive Education Quest site, have had class discussions about career choices, careers of the future and robotics. They explored the job market in Nebraska looking at the salaries, location, and education. They have learned about the four skills needed to be successful: life skills, soft skills, employability skills, and career skills.
