We have 2 students who have earned RARE Awards this week so far. One is a 2nd grade student who earned her RARE Award for being Empathetic. She had a malfunction in her computer during a test and was patient and waited for her teacher to be able to help her. The other student was a kindergartner who earned his RARE Award for being Empathetic. He showed empathy toward classmates and teachers. Way to go!

Last week the Elementary celebrated Read Across America. What started as a simple and fun way to honor the late Dr. Seuss on his birthday, has turned into a week long celebration of literacy. Our week was full of fun events, from dress up days to crafts and special readers.
The K-6 students were challenged to reach a week-long goal of 175 AR points and they blew right past it, ending with a whopping 216 points!! Their prize is a fun recess with the "big kids" later on this spring.
The top two readers in each class were awarded with a special treat, and the top reader in each class was gifted a certificate for a free book at the Book Fair.

FCS Students Create Monsters With Kindergarten Partners
Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) students recently practiced their hand-sewing skills through a fun and creative monster project. Students learned three basic stitches and how to sew on buttons, and were required to use at least two of those stitches in their projects.
To make the activity even more special, the class partnered with kindergarten students. Each FCS student worked with a kindergartener to design a unique monster. The younger students shared their ideas, and the FCS students brought those designs to life through sewing.
Once finished, the handmade monsters were given to the kindergarten students who helped design them. The project allowed FCS students to practice their sewing skills while also building connections with younger students.

The team competed today at the Maxwell Speech Meet, finishing tied for 7th place out of 21 teams despite a challenging start to the day with icy roads, snow, and several students battling the flu. Students pushed through the difficult conditions and turned in a strong day of performances.

The other half of the RARE awards went to boys this week. We had a 1st grade boy earn an award for being empathetic. He saw a kindergarten student struggling to open the gym door. He hurried to help him open the door. Next we had 2 4th grade students earn RARE Awards. The first young man earned it for being Empathetic. He thinks of others and has a big heart. The second student also earned his for being Empathetic. He surprised his class with candy for their candy jar. The last young man to receive a RARE Award this week was a 6th grade student who came in and helped with the high school quiz bowl contest. He worked hard and was very Accountable. What wonderful students we have at Stapleton Public Schools!
